Pokemon Scam Warning Alert

The Top 10 Threat List

1

The "Free PokéCoin Generator" Loop

This is the oldest trick in the book. You’ll see a website or a YouTube video promising a "hack" to get millions of PokéCoins (in-game currency used to buy items from the shop) for free. All you have to do is enter your username and "verify" you’re a human by completing five surveys or downloading three random apps.

The Trap: There is no such thing as a PokéCoin generator. The scammers make money every time you click a survey or download an app. You’ll spend an hour clicking buttons and end up with zero coins and a phone full of junk apps.
Stay Safe: The only way to get free PokéCoins is by defending Gyms (up to 50 coins a day) or buying them legitimately through the app store.
2

The "Guaranteed Shiny" Trade Scam

A player on social media reaches out offering to trade you a super rare Shiny Legendary. They ask you to pay them $10 on PayPal first, and then they will spoof to your location to do the trade.

The Trap: Once you send the money, they block you. Even worse, if they do spoof to you, Niantic's anti-cheat systems can flag your account for interacting with a known spoofer.
Stay Safe: Only trade with trainers you know in real life or through trusted, local community Discord groups. Never pay real money for an in-game trade.
3

Buying Pre-Levelled Accounts

Websites offering instant Level 40 or 50 accounts packed with rare Pokémon for a seemingly low price.

The Trap: These accounts are created by automated bots. Niantic's AI detects these and regularly issues massive "ban waves." Additionally, the original creator can often recover the account via email even after you've paid for it.
Stay Safe: Build your own account! Follow our levelling guides to hit high levels fast and legitimately.
4

Phishing Emails from "Niantic Support"

You receive an urgent email claiming your account has been flagged for suspension and you must click a link to log in and verify your details to stop the ban.

The Trap: The link takes you to a fake website that looks exactly like the official login page. When you type in your username and password, you are handing it directly to a hacker.
Stay Safe: Official support will never ask for your password. Always log in directly through the app, never through an email link.
5

Fake Companion Apps

You find an app on a third-party store promising to show you exactly where 100% IV Pokémon are spawning, but it requires you to log in with your Pokémon GO account to work.

The Trap: These apps scrape your login data. Not only do you risk having your account stolen, but giving third-party apps direct access to your account is an instant violation of the Terms of Service.
Stay Safe: Only use companion apps (like IV checkers) that rely on screen recording or screenshots, which do not require your login credentials.
6

Spoofing Software Subscriptions

Websites selling "untraceable" joystick apps that allow you to walk around the game from your couch for a monthly fee.

The Trap: There is no such thing as untraceable spoofing software anymore. You are paying a monthly fee just to get your account permanently banned in the next security update.
Stay Safe: Play the game as intended. The exercise and fresh air are half the fun!
7

The "Test My Beta Game" Scam

A friendly user on a forum asks you to test their new Pokémon GO fan game and sends you a file to download to your PC or Android.

The Trap: The file contains malware or a keylogger. It searches your device for saved passwords, bank details, and your Pokémon GO login info.
Stay Safe: Never download unverified files from strangers. Stick to official app stores.
8

Social Media "Account Boosters"

Services on Instagram or Twitter that offer to log into your account while you sleep to catch regionals or complete difficult raids for you.

The Trap: You are giving a stranger the keys to your house. They can transfer your best Pokémon, spend your PokéCoins, or simply steal the account outright.
Stay Safe: Never share your login details with anyone, no matter how highly recommended their "boosting" service claims to be.
9

Fake Walking Devices (Step Counters)

Physical "phone swings" or apps that promise to generate thousands of steps an hour to hatch your eggs instantly without you moving.

The Trap: Many of these apps contain hidden subscription charges that drain your money. Furthermore, Adventure Sync has gotten much smarter at detecting unnatural, robotic step patterns.
Stay Safe: Get out and walk! It’s the whole point of the game, and it’s the only way to keep your account 100% safe.
10

Fake "Giveaway" Live Streams

You see a live stream on TikTok or YouTube showing a massive giveaway of PokéCoins or rare accounts. They tell you to go to a link in the bio to claim your prize.

The Trap: These streams are usually pre-recorded videos playing on a loop. The link in the bio is almost always a phishing site or a survey scam designed to steal your data.
Stay Safe: Real giveaways from big creators usually happen during live interactions where they call out winners' names. Never click a link in a bio that asks for a login!
